A Life Built in Seasons

I grew up in the town of Glace Bay on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia where entrepreneurship was simply part of everyday life. My family owned and operated many different businesses and from a young age I was often involved in helping them grow.

Sometimes I helped launch new ventures. Sometimes I helped solve problems inside existing ones. What I learned early on was that building something meaningful requires curiosity, persistence, and the willingness to take responsibility for the outcome.

That mindset stayed with me. I started my first small business as a teenager and over the next three decades I continued building, experimenting, and reinventing across industries.

Life and business rarely move in straight lines. They move in seasons. Each season brings new challenges, new lessons, and new opportunities to grow.

Early Foundations

Before business became the main focus, sports played an important role in shaping my discipline and mindset. I competed nationally in baseball and provincially in golf. Those experiences taught me the value of preparation, teamwork, and personal accountability.

I later studied business and accounting at Cape Breton University before moving to Halifax where I completed the Business Information and Technology program at Nova Scotia Community College.

While attending college I entered the corporate world through the casino gaming industry. What began as an entry level opportunity quickly turned into a fifteen year career.

Global Experience

During my time in the gaming industry I held various managerial roles with several well known international brands. The work gave me the opportunity to travel extensively and experience life in more than forty five countries across five continents.

Traveling and working in different cultures expanded my perspective on business and leadership. It also strengthened my belief that opportunity exists everywhere for people who remain curious and willing to adapt.

Entrepreneurship and Technology

In 2012 I made the decision to leave the gaming industry and return to entrepreneurship full time.

Soon after I launched a hardware electronics company and introduced our products at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The company went on to secure nationwide retail distribution across several of Canada's largest retailers.

In 2016 I co-founded an Internet of Things technology company called Ubiqweus. Our team developed a line of internet connected sensors designed to bring new data insights and connectivity to physical environments.

These experiences deepened my interest in how emerging technologies can transform traditional industries.

Helping Builders Grow

My work eventually expanded beyond building my own companies and into helping other entrepreneurs grow theirs.

At Treefrog I held several roles including Lead Hardware Manager and IoT specialist before transitioning into business development and innovation.

In 2021 I helped launch the Treefrog Accelerator where I initially served as Executive Director before later transitioning into the role of Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Through the accelerator and the broader startup ecosystem I have worked closely with founders across many industries. Over the past five years I have personally interviewed more than one thousand startup founders while helping many of them refine their ideas, improve their positioning, and prepare for growth.

Those conversations gave me a unique perspective on the patterns, challenges, and opportunities that entrepreneurs face when building companies.

A Life Designed with Intention

Since 2022 my family and I have also been living a full time travel lifestyle while I continued working with founders and helping scale the accelerator.

This experience reinforced something I have believed for a long time. Work and life do not have to follow a conventional path. With curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to evolve it is possible to build a life that grows alongside your ambitions.

Traveling and working remotely has allowed me to continue supporting entrepreneurs from many different parts of the world while also creating meaningful experiences with my family.

Community

Giving back has always been important to me.

Over the years I served on the Board of Directors for the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce including a term as Vice Chair. I also participated on the Policy and Advocacy Committee and the Governance and Risk Committee.

I have also volunteered with organizations such as the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Aurora King Baseball Association, and Our Lady of Grace Parish.

Mentoring entrepreneurs and students within the York Region and Toronto startup ecosystems continues to be something I value deeply.

Today

Today I focus on helping founders and operators navigate change in a rapidly evolving technological world.

I work with builders who are looking for clarity and direction as they move into the next season of their business. Sometimes that means launching something new. Sometimes it means modernizing an existing company. Often it means adapting to the opportunities and challenges created by emerging technologies and artificial intelligence.

What remains consistent across every conversation is the belief that growth comes from curiosity, resilience, and the willingness to evolve.

Outside of Work

Outside of work my focus is family, health, and continuing to learn.

I enjoy golf, baseball, basketball, and traveling. The thing I value most is spending time with my family and exploring new places together.

Life has taken me across industries, continents, and many seasons of change. Through it all the common thread has remained the same. Curiosity, adaptability, and the belief that the best opportunities often appear when we are willing to keep moving forward.
